Card values

What is your card worth?

Type a card’s name — or its number, like 125/197 — and we will tell you what it sells for in pounds, and how many independent UK shops have one on the shelf right now.

Look up a card

Every figure here is an estimate and wears an “≈”. It is what the card sells for, not what a shop will pay you for it, and no shop is bound by it. How the number is worked out.

The honest version

Where the number comes from.

We would rather show you a British number than a foreign one you have to convert in your head.

There is no large, liquid, public record of UK single-card sales. So the figure starts from recorded US market sales for the same card, and is converted to pounds on our servers at the European Central Bank reference rate for the day. You never see the dollar number, and neither does your calculator.

That conversion is the reason for the “≈”. The rate moves, the US and UK markets are not the same market, and a card’s condition changes what it is worth more than either of those. So, plainly:

  • It is the near-mint price, for the printing the card actually comes in — a Charizard ex is only ever holo, so we quote holo. A played card is worth less, sometimes much less.
  • It is never a dollar figure. If we cannot convert it — no rate that day, no recorded sale — you get a plain “no price yet” instead of a number you would have to translate yourself.
  • It is not an offer, and not a quote. A shop buying your card pays less than it sells for; that difference is the shop’s living. Every shop on DiscoverTCG sets its own prices and we have no part in them.
  • Nobody pays to appear here. The shop count is simply how many shops have told us the card is on their shelf.

The whole binder

Point a camera at it instead.

One at a time is fine for one card. The app recognises a card from its face, files it with the finish and condition you actually have, and keeps a running total — and it shows you the value before you make an account.

Which shop near you has it.

Knowing a card is worth £12 is half of it. The other half is a shop within driving distance with one in the case — its address, whether it is open right now, and what else is on the shelf.

Questions

The ones worth asking.

Is this what a shop will pay me for the card?

No. It is an estimate of what the card sells for, not an offer. A shop buying from you pays less than that, because it has to sell the card again and carry it until somebody wants it. Treat this as the ceiling, not the cheque.

Where does the number come from?

Recorded US market sales for the same card, converted to pounds on our servers at the European Central Bank reference rate for the day. Near mint, in the printing the card actually comes in. It is an estimate, it is marked as one wherever it appears, and it is never shown to you in dollars.

Which cards can I look up?

Every Pokémon and Lorcana card in the DiscoverTCG catalogue. Search by name, or by number in the form 125/197. A card with no recorded sale says “no price yet” rather than guessing at one.

Why does it say “no shop lists one yet”?

Because none of the shops with a DiscoverTCG shelf have said they have it in stock. It is not a statement about the card, and it is not a statement about the shops — a shop can have a card in the case and never have listed it. Ask one.

Does it cost anything?

No, and there is no account to make to use this page. The DiscoverTCG app for Android is free today too.

I run a shop. Can I put my stock in here?

Yes, and being listed is free forever. What shops get, and what the paid console costs.
