1. Why these guidelines exist
This is a version 1.0 draft published during development. It sets out how we intend to operate DiscoverTCG, and should be reviewed by a qualified adviser, alongside our other policies, before public launch.
Every finding on DiscoverTCG asks someone to spend their time and money travelling to a shop. A careless report wastes a journey. A dishonest one damages a local business and the trust the whole network depends on.
These guidelines apply to everything you contribute: findings, photos, comments, validations, store profiles and messages to us. They sit alongside our terms of use, which remain the binding agreement.
2. Report what you actually saw
A finding should be a first-hand, recent observation:
- Report stock you have seen yourself, in the store you are naming, on the day you saw it.
- Do not report stock you have already bought, hidden, moved or set aside.
- Do not guess at restock timing, or present a rumour, a group chat message or another site’s listing as your own sighting.
- Update or withdraw a finding if you realise it was wrong.
- Do not post the same finding repeatedly to keep it near the top.
Reports that turn out to be honestly mistaken are fine. Reports designed to mislead are not.
3. Photograph carefully
Photos are what make a finding credible, but they are taken inside someone else’s business and in public:
- Photograph the product and the shelf, not the people around it.
- Do not capture bystanders, children or staff in a way that identifies them without their agreement.
- Keep receipts, order slips, addresses, vehicle registrations and personal documents out of frame.
- Follow the store’s own rules. If a shop asks you not to photograph, do not photograph.
- Do not block aisles, tills or staff to get a picture.
4. Respect stores and their staff
Independent stores take part so that local collectors can find them. That relationship only works if the visits are pleasant ones.
- Do not pressure staff to hold, reserve or discount stock because of something posted here.
- Do not imply that DiscoverTCG entitles you to anything. It does not.
- Do not misrepresent yourself as working for, or acting on behalf of, DiscoverTCG or Stockulate.
- Raise a dispute with a store through our reporting route rather than a public accusation.
5. Respect other collectors
Findings and comments are a shared space:
- No harassment, threats, discrimination or targeted pile-ons.
- No posting another person’s private information, including their home, workplace, movements or identity.
- No sexual content, no content that sexualises a minor, and no graphic violence.
- Disagree with a finding on its merits rather than attacking the person who posted it.
6. Validate in good faith
Validation is how the community says a finding looks right. It is a signal other people rely on, so it carries a responsibility.
- Only validate a finding you can genuinely judge, because you were there or the evidence is clear.
- Do not organise groups to validate or discredit findings.
- Do not trade, sell or exchange validations, and do not use additional accounts to inflate them.
7. Keep it legal
You must not use DiscoverTCG to post or promote:
- Illegal material, or content encouraging illegal activity.
- Counterfeit, proxy or knowingly misdescribed trading cards or sealed product.
- Scams, fake giveaways, phishing, or attempts to move people to an off-platform payment.
- Content that infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark or other rights.
- Malware, spam or automated abuse.
If you believe something on DiscoverTCG breaks the law, tell us through the reporting page.
8. Location and personal safety
Never use DiscoverTCG to follow, locate, wait for or intimidate another person. This is the most serious misuse of a location-based service. It will lead to permanent removal, and to a report to the police where someone may be at risk.
When acting on a finding:
- Do not interact with the app while driving, cycling or riding.
- Travel is at your own risk and your own cost. A finding is information, not a guarantee.
- If you are under 18, tell someone where you are going, and travel with someone you trust where you can.
- Do not enter staff-only, restricted or private areas.
9. What happens if these guidelines are broken
We aim to respond proportionately, and to explain ourselves where we reasonably can. Depending on what happened, and whether it has happened before, we may:
- Remove or hide a finding, photo or comment.
- Reset validations that appear to have been manipulated.
- Limit how often an account can post, validate or comment.
- Restrict features, suspend an account, or remove it permanently.
- Remove a store profile, or withdraw a store from testing.
- Refer a matter to the police or another authority where someone may be at risk.
Serious cases — particularly anything involving a risk to a person or a child — may skip the earlier steps entirely.
10. If you think we got it wrong
You can ask us to look again. Email support@discovertcg.com with the subject “DiscoverTCG moderation appeal”, telling us what was actioned and why you think the decision was wrong. Wherever it is practical, someone who was not involved in the original decision will review it. The full process is on our reporting and takedown page.
11. Changes and contact
These guidelines will change as DiscoverTCG grows, and as we learn what actually causes problems. We will update the date at the top of this page when they do.
